This is the short list of the most common foods that conflict with Syrian Rue. Rather than deciding that you will go about life without eating certain foods, you ought to embrace the fact that certain foods are not good when mixed. For example, beer and milk. You can drink both beer and milk – but not at the same time. Don’t suppose that you must give up beer because you drink milk every morning for breakfast. Also consider smoking rue, the dietary restrictions are relaxed a little when smoking and not eatng rue. http://SyrianRue.org/Smoke. At a minimum, read about smoke as part of the read about diet because that page also mentions a bit about dose and effect of rue.
While eating Syrian Rue, avoid aged cheeses such as Parmesan, Chedder, Blue Cheese, Swiss, Gouda, Feta, Brie, Gruyere, and Emmental. Cheeses such as American cheese, Cottage Cheese, and fresh Ricotta are not aged and need not be avoided. Avoid aged, smoked or preserved meat like Beef Jerky, Pepperoni, Mortadella, Salami, Shrimp paste, Pickled herrings, or salted Cod. Do not eat raw yeast, nutritional yeast, or any preservatives such as MSG which is a Yeast Extract. Do not eat fermented tofu or soy. Fermented soy is found in some vitamin supplements in large amounts.
The substance to avoid is tyramine. Very small amounts of tyramine will not make you nauseous or give you a headache/migrane headache, but large amounts will. Tyramine is poison to everyone, but the levels of tolerance to tyramine vary from person to person and from time to time. The berries of the mistletoe plant contain poisonous amounts of tyramine to all people at all times. Although Syrian Rue is an antidote to other poisons, it lowers your tolerance for tyramine causing you to become more sensitive to it. Poisonous tyramine is found more in old, mishandled, or damaged food because many food sources contain the beneficial amino acid tyrosine. Tyramine is created by bacteria that decarboxylate the tyrosine into poisonous tyramine. It allegedly can be created by bacteria in your own bowel after eating foods rich in tyrosine, it definitely can be created by bacteria before it enters your body.
Begin digression on Cyanide:
On the topic of poison, consider cyanide which, without an antidote, causes death by asphyxiation in large amounts and some amount of cellular death in small amounts. Corn, sudan grass, sorghums, cherry, apple, broccoli, and peach may accumulate large quantities of cyanide – mostly in leaves and seeds. 3.7 pounds of Lima beans contains a lethal dose of cyanide. The accumulation of cyanide in certain plants occurs when they are injured or drought stressed. The good news about cyanide poisoning is that the simple antidote is garlic. Garlic and Shallots do some magic to mineral sulfur making it water soluble so that the presence of sulfur in your blood will react with cyanide, destroying it. Garlic is essential prior to drinking Morning Glory tea.
A cyanide ion combines with sulfur to form thiocyanate. Curiously the hepatic enzyme, rhodanese (properly called thiosulfate:cyanide sulfurtransferase), also converts cyanide to the far less toxic thiocyanate. An enzyme of the rhodanese superfamily is ubiquitous to all life just as Dimethyltryptamine and Water are found in all living organisms.
Garlic and Shallots are natures silver bullet against cyanide which occurs in over 100 plants. The biosynthesis rate of endogenous rhodanese enzymes is coded in your DNA – just like your MAO and the many other metabolic enzymes that you naturally biosynthesize. Your own enzymes will manage small amounts of cyanide. For large amounts of cyanide in the body – you will need an antidote.
You COULD ingest more rhodanese enzymes that were cultured in large quantities. Microorganisms are generally used as sources for industrial enzyme production. The enzyme Lactase, which aids in the digestion of milk, is produced with Escherichia coli. The Microorganism Sulfobacillus sibiricus is used to create rhodanese enzymes. Sulfur in your blood, obtained predominantly by eating Garlic (Kale has some sulfur also) does the SAME thing as pharmacutical rhodanese enzymes. They both destroy cyanide, turning it into thiocyanate. Sulfobacillus sibiricus sure seems silly when we can just eat Garlic.
Hydroxocobalamin, a manmade analog of Vitamin B12 called B12a, will nonenzymatically react cyanide into non-toxic cyanocobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is a form of Vitamin B12 and even more ideal than creating useless (and mostly harmless) thiocyanate in your blood. Hydroxocobalamin is a more effective form of Vitamin B12 for many people, as it is more readily available in the body.
End of digression on cyanide.
Tyramine is also created by plants – not just bacteria.
You dont want to become a religious nut about your diet and abstain from a mostly harmless dash of cinnamon or from ALL tree nuts in an attempt to eliminate ALL tyramine from your diet when your body can metabolize a little. Brazil Nuts are far worse than Almonds or Cashews which I frequently combine with Syrian Rue to no ill effect. Avoid large quantities of: spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, italian flat (romano) beans, pineapple, dates, snow peas, avocados, raw onion, papaya, eggplants, figs, beets, olives, broccoli, red plums, kim chee, prunes, raspberries, peanuts and peanut butter, Brazil nuts, walnuts, coconut and coconut water, ginseng, licorice, cinnamon, anise, curry powder, hot paprika, nutmeg, beer and wine.
Some of the aforementioned foods are safe in small quantities, but they are all known to have some tyramine. On a mild dose of Syrian Rue I ate half of a large papaya and experienced no nausea. Small doses of rue make for easy daily use. For example there are many varieties of spinach, some contain low levels of tyramine that will not be a problem unless you eat too much of it. Be careful with spinach. Eat kale. Some varieties of spinach have a high tyramine level. I have drank 2 beers on a medium dose of Syrian Rue to no ill effect, maybe mild bloating. Expect different various of wine and beer to contain different variety of tyramine levels. Drink tequila. My very worst ever experience on a large dose of Rue and a diet that was strictly flawless except with a multi-vitamin pill that upon detailed inspection concluded an ingredients list with “may contain fermented soy”. I took the vitamin pill at 12:00 and the large dose of Rue at 5:00 and was extremely ill by 8:00 – the uncontrolled violent vomiting and dry heaves subsided late into the night. There was no warning about mixing the vitamin with an MAOI – but it was a bad combo.
One time i was nauseated by a curry chicken dinner that mixed with my gut full of syrian rue. Unlike most other bad food reactions that dissipate within a few hours, i remember feeling the curry/rue combo pass through me for 2 and a half days. In 2020, while eating rue with a friend we were offered a curry meal. I declined and told him that curry doesnt mix. He is like me in the fact that he breaks all the rules and must see for himself if a thing is true. It was interesting for me to confirm the seriousness of curry because pinpointing the bad food reaction is not easy. For example – it could have been rotten chicken covered by the taste of curry – but the problem was certainly the curry. Curious curry. What is curry? It varies depends on who makes it. Curry often contains bouillon broth, which unless freshly made which is rare, contains Yeast Extracts or MSG as a preservative and a mix with Syrian Rue. A complete meal with all good ingredients becomes sickening when bouillon broth cubes or powders are added so eating out becomes a gamble on large doses.
Alcohol does not conflict with Syrian Rue – yeast in beer and wine does. A slice or two of FRESH yeast raised bread is safe because most yeast dies during baking, unleavened bread is perfectly safe you could eat a pound of it. What I have discovered with beer is that with some brands i can drink 1 or 2 beers and not get sick and with other brands, just 1/3 of a single beer is all i can handle. It has more to do with the brand of beer you are drinking than with the amount of Rue that you take.
Strawberry seeds contain tyramine. Do not eat a large bowl full of strawberries with Syrian Rue, likewise with raspberries. Knowing that the strawberry and raspberry seed that is to blame and not the flesh is interesting. I discovered that wild strawberry is much smaller and the seeds are not embedded in the fruit. It has a layer of seed that can be easily peeled revealing a tyramine free berry inside. Just like a banana is 100% tyramine free – but there is tyramine in the strings under the banana peel – so peel it proper and complete. The small dark end of a peeled banana opposite from the stem also has a tiny amount of tyramine, only eat the yellow flesh which is 100% compatible with Syrian Rue.
Food that is ideal is 100% tyramine free:
Fresh chicken, eggs, fish, beef, white bread, wheat bread, rye bread, English muffins, crackers, bagels, hot and cold cereal, cream of wheat, rice, cooked dried beans, peas, and lentils, all pasta, apple, banana, mangoes, blueberries, melons, melon blossoms, spaghetti, egg noodles, rice, corn, asparagus, carrots, pumpkin, squash, zucchini, cooked onion, American cheese, ricotta, cottage cheese, cream cheese, eggs, canned salmon or tuna fish, tuna salad, milk: whole, 2% or skim, salt, chives, sugar, maple syrup, honey, and salad dressing made from olive oil and lemon juice. Baby kale can be cooked or in a salad with Hibiscus flowers. Potatoes, Sweet potatoes, Yams, Yucca, and breadfruit are all good.
Poison is everywhere. White potatoes have the poison solanine. Cooking them destroys most of it. Sweet potatoes are far more nutritious and do not contain the poison so they are good to eat raw. Sugar and carbs increase with cooking. One cup of raw sweet potato has about 114 calories, 26.8 grams of carbs and 5.6 g sugar, whereas one cup of baked sweet potato has about 180 calories, 41.4 g carbs and 16.9 g sugar. Yucca is also a far more nutritional choice than white potato – and all of them are good with Syrian Rue. Perhaps you were unaware that white potatoes can kill you – see the following link:
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/horrific-tales-of-potatoes-that-caused-mass-sickness-and-even-death-3162870/ Boiled green bananas taste like white potato and they are much more nutritious. Very green bananas when they are boiled taste similar to a white potato whereas almost yellow bananas are sweeter and even more delicious – boil them in salt with the peel on until it splits and the otherwise unpeelable unripe banana easily slides from it’s skin. There is no antidote for solanine poisoning. Diazepam is used to help with solanine poisoning. Diazepam is marketed as Valium so when you buy white potatoes remember to pick up some Valium.
Beware of Yeast Extracts, (the yeast of the Pharisees). Yeast extract is the common name for various forms of processed yeast products that are used as preservatives. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is the most well-known yeast extract. MSG side effects range from headaches and nausea to heart palpitations or chest pain in about 14% of Americans. Syrian Rue amplifies the effects of yeast extract poisons.
Due to the common knowledge that MSG is bad for your health, corporate chemists/scientists have created other yeast extracts with lesser known names. The general method for making yeast extracts for food products is to add salt to a suspension of yeast, making the solution hypertonic, which leads to the cells shriveling up. This triggers autolysis, wherein the yeast’s digestive enzymes break their own proteins down into simpler compounds, a process of self-destruction. The dying yeast cells are then heated to complete their breakdown, after which the husks (yeast with thick cell walls that would give poor texture) are separated. When consumed with an MAOI such as Syrian Rue, it will raise your blood pressure and may produce nausea/vomiting in some cases.
Yeast extracts are found in various condiments and seasonings and should be avoided, those to be avoided includes but are not limited to bouillon cubes/powder, meat tenderizers, dry packaged and canned soups, gravy, sauces, stew mixes, instant soup dry powder bases, Soy and Teriyaki Sauce and sourdough bread. Some vitamin supplements contain brewer’s yeast or fermented soy and should be avoided.
Yeast and yeast extracts and their synthesized relatives, aka “preservatives” are poison. Their poisonous effects are amplified by an MAOI. Most popular eye drops contain them in concentrate unless they state that they are preservative free. This is why eye drops are poison when ingested internally – like eating berries from the berries of the mistletoe plant. I experimented with eye drops and when used as directed externally they do not conflict with the MAOI that is in the blood. Eye drops are perfectly safe with Syrian rue unless you eat them, then their effect will be amplified.
Technically, Syrian Rue is a reversible MAOI also called a RIMA. Alternatively, pharmaceutical MAOIs are irreversible which means they covalently bind to the MAO enzyme rendering it permanently deactivated and cannot be restored until the body replaces the enzyme through new enzyme synthesis. The rate of MAO synthesis occurs according to DNA codes. Reversible MAOIs like Syrian Rue can be displaced from the MAO enzymes so that the risk from tyramine is significantly reduced. Many sources of information referring to general MAOI food interactions are specifically with regard to non-selective irreversible pharmaceutical MAOIs such as Parnate and Nardil, applying somewhat less or not at all to Syrian Rue which is much safer than pharmaceuticals. RIMAs are displaced by tyramine on the MAO enzyme therefore tyramine can be metabolized so a hypertensive crisis is not easily encountered using Syrian Rue like it is using pharmaceutical MAOIs. Using Syrian Rue as an MAOI, tyramine is more likely to produce nausea than a hypertensive crisis.
There are many safe foods. These are a few of the GOOD foods that will prepare your body chemistry for some GOOD tea and a GOOD experience. Fresh chicken, fish, and beef is GOOD. Eat perishable foods within two days after purchase. Go to the market often. Eat fresh white bread, wheat bread, rye bread, English muffins, crackers, bagels, hot and cold cereal, cream of wheat, rice, cooked dried beans, peas, and lentils, all pasta, apple, banana, blueberries, melons, spaghetti, egg noodles, rice, corn, asparagus, carrots, pumpkin, squash, zucchini, potatoes, cooked onion, American cheese, ricotta, cottage cheese, cream cheese, eggs, canned salmon or tuna fish, tuna salad, milk: whole, 2% or skim, salt, chives, sugar, maple syrup, honey, and salad dressing made from olive oil and lemon juice. Baby kale can be cooked or in a salad – but no Spinich.
Properly canned or frozen FRESH food is GOOD if it is eaten immediately after opening or thawing it. Eggs must also be eaten immediately. A slice or two of FRESH yeast raised bread is safe because most yeast dies during baking, unleavened bread is perfectly safe you could eat a pound of it. Eat the energy of living foods not the energy of decaying death. Some information sources say “all nuts have tyramine”, I do not know about that, because several handfuls of (Pistachios, Cashews, Almonds, and Pecans) feel safe to me.
I used Syrian Rue many 100’s of times, probably 1000’s of times between 2014 and 2020 without experiencing sickness. It is not very difficult to eat a Syrian Rue compliant diet and with all of this information available, bad experiences will be rare but not altogether eliminated. Even with dietary knowledge – accidents happen. On one occasion I ate a large amount of processed de-shelled sunflower seeds that contained tyramine. Although Sunflower seeds contain no tyramine, they can spoil. Although I opened the bag and it was within the freshness date – that bag was spoiled and contained enough tyramine to make me sick.
Do not eat anything other than very fresh food. No dried fruit and just about all prepared packaged ‘meals’( canned, frozen, or dry packaged ) contain tyramine as yeast extracts. Products should not be used if they are close to the expiration date.
To guarantee dietary success you might to choose to eat nothing for 24 hours prior to eating Syrian Rue, otherwise follow the diet and be strict if you are using large doses of Syrian Rue. Alexander Shulgin proposed that harmala itself caused nausea. Even on a perfect diet, with a high dose of syrian rue there are frequently a few waves of slight nausea. Smoking cannabis seems to help cure mild nausea. Drink plenty of GOOD water. Being dehydrated makes it impossible to vomit if your body needs to and drinking water induces vomiting when you are already dehydrated making it hard to drink more. Be extra conscious to drink water when eating Syrian Rue. Drink extra water which will make a purge easy if necessary.
Diabetics: Eat a small piece of bread and fruit juice 60-90 minutes before taking the Rue and keep fruit juice handy. A 2007 study suggests that Syrian Rue acts like thiazolidinediones, however, harmine does not cause significant weight gain or hepatic lipid accumulation. Syrian Rue is used to treat diabetes. Type 2 diabetics might be able to achieve a reversal of their condition from the harmine in Syrian Rue.
Pregnant Women: Syrian rue contains uterotonics. You should definitely not use LARGE AMOUNTS Syrian Rue in later stages of pregnancy as it may induce labor. Extremely large doses(50 to 150grams) will cause an abortion due to the release of prostaglandins. 1.5 grams is enough to activate DMT and that amount is safe. I know a woman who used Ayahuasca many times during her pregnancy and she has a beautiful healthy baby girl. Rue only becomes dangerously to pregnancy in very high doses which are used to intentionally abort a fetus.
Fasting prior to Ayahuasca
This is a curious and unexpected finding. I do not recommend Aya for someone who is many days into a fast. In one case somewhere near the 15th day of nothing but water, first the Syrian Rue was consumed. The effects of the Rue were enjoyable, then an extract from either Chacruna, Chaliponga, or Mimosa Hostillis was consumed slightly more than an hour after the rue and it became a difficult and uncomfortable experience. Eat compatible food or only skip a single day of eating is my recommendation. In another case, after 3 days of nothing but water (and no garlic or sulfur in the body) an experience with Morning Glories became wicked uncomfortable – make sure you eat garlic prior to a MG journey.
There is a fine line between Plants, Medicines, and Drugs – a person could argue that all 3 are one and the same thing. Even the question of what is natural is open to debate. Water can be created synthetically by combination of hydrogen and oxygen, is it then unnatural water? I would say no. When natural organic elements are combined to create a molecule which cannot happen without the hand of mankind the product can range from almost natural to completely unnatural which is further discussed below.
Pharmaceutical irreversible MAOIs combined with certain other medicines is a certain recipe for hypertensive crisis and possible death. Although the dangers of a reversible MAOI like Syrian Rue are far less – they still exist. Do not combine with SSRI antidepressants and dramamine. Decongestants and antihistamines are untested by myself – both are generally not combined with an MAOI but i dont know if the conflict is only with irreversible MAOI’s. Dont mix them is the rule – any rule breakers out there let me know what happens. I sometimes carefully break rules to find more understanding, so I mixed a large dose of syrian Rue with 2 cups of coffee which most information sources say should not be mixed with Rue, the stimulating effect was seemingly increased. 2 cups was not dangerous. I mix them frequently. Mixing Pharmaceutical irreversible MAOIs is more dangerous than mixing Syrian Rue however an understanding of the metabolic similarities is helpful.
Wait at least 3 weeks after taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) before starting with MAOIs. This includes antidepressants such as the herb kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) and pills such as paroxetine (Seroxat), citalopram (Cipramil), fluvoxamine (Fevarin) and sertraline (Zoloft). Zoloft and many of these cause impotence in men. They should have called it SoSoft rather than Zoloft. I have no experience with mixing kanna 3 weeks seems an excessively safe time not to overlap use. It’s recommended to wait 6 weeks after fluoxetine (Prozac), as Prozac has been blamed for at least 1 death in combination with Ayahuasca which is a reversible MAOI just like Syrian Rue. In 2017, there was another Ayahuasca related death – WBSRadio removed the online story. The details were unknown.
Logic would conclude, that however rare Ayahuasca based MAOI deaths are the same principle alkaloid present in banisteriopsis caapi(Ayahuasca vine) is also in Syrian Rue and therefore I would presume that such an accident, unto death, must be possible equally with Syrian Rue as with Ayahuasca.
I have seen Syrian Rue successfully mixed with Xanax and Klonopin resulting in no negative interactions. I have seen stimulants mixed with Syrian Rue, but not to a degree that seemed dangerous.
With specific regard to MDMA, which most information says can be lethal when mixed with an MAOI, when in fact more specifically, inhibition of MAO-B protects against MDMA-induced neurotoxicity in the striatum. Irreversible inhibition of MAO-A can be lethal and should not be mixed with MDMA. Syrian Rue is reversible and possibly can be mixed with small dose MDMA which will potentate the MDMA effect. There are mixed reports about combining Rue with small dose MDMA so proceed with extreme caution or do not proceed until more is known. One kind of MAOI, MAO-B, is helpful for MDMA users and irreversible pharmaceutical MAO-A inhibition is unquestionably harmful when used at the same time as MDMA.
With specific regard to Dextromethorphan(DXM), which is a cough suppressant and a disassociative. On the Robotussin bottle it says “Warning do not use with an MAOI”. Even when eating Syrian Rue I still tried the cough medicine – there was no sickness or hypertension of any kind. I only used the cough medicine in the prescribed amount – or possibly even slightly less than the prescribed amount. Maybe if i would consume the whole bottle of cough medicine it would react with the Rue. The DXM came with the warning against MAOI’s and it was a safe mix with Syrian Rue and a vitamin pill that MAY contain fermented soy came with no warning and caused violent vomiting when mixed with Syrian Rue. I do not recommend mixing psychedelic amounts of DXM for its disassociative effects along with Rue – i wouldnt try it but that doesnt mean anything – let me know how it goes if you try it. DXM is fully unnatural in that the molecule, nor any molecule even close to DXM exists in nature. DXM belongs in the same category as Ketamine and PCP(Angel Dust) based on the molecular structure and disassociative class, they all have quite different effect and some knowledge of spiritual and physical connection may be gleaned from them, long term use seems unwise. The best article I have ever seen that groups neurotransmitters based on molecular structure is https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_psychedelic_drugs
With Specific regard to Mescaline, Syrian Rue will potentate the effect to no ill. Alexander Shulgin commented that the threshold dose of Mescaline is 200 mg so 100mg being sub-threshold will have no effect unless taken together with Syrian Rue which stops MAO from metabolizing it. I ate 10grams of powdered San Pedro cactus with Syrian Rue and the effects were very enjoyable.
Syrian Rue and hallucinogenic mushrooms is the best mix ever… Psilocin is a kind of DMT. It is DMT with a hydroxy(a hydrogen oxygen) bound at position 4 so it is 4HO-DMT or 4-Hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine. 4HO-DMT metabolizes MUCH slower than DMT and Syrian Rue inhibits MAO which also destroys psilocin which is 4HO-DMT. The combination is profound and highly recommended. All natural, mushrooms and seeds.
Syrian Rue and marijuana are safe together, in fact marijuana may help with the nausea a little bit along with ginger. Bananas are also especially good because vomiting causes increased potassium excretion. Eggs are also good to replace protein. Not all proteins are created equal – eggs are the best: https://www.aeb.org/food-manufacturers/why-eggs/white-papers/real-eggs-not-all-proteins-are-created-equal
LSD and Syrian Rue are safe together. LSD is almost natural considering that Lysergic acid amide, Lysergic acid propylamide, and other lysergamides exist in Hawaiian Baby Woodrose and in some varieties of Morning Glories, both plants of shamanic history. My experience with the completely natural lysergamides was better than LSD from a pure comparison of lysergamides however much more difficult considering the vomiting and sulpher based antidote which was used in my expiration with natural lysergamides. The other person involved in the experiments called it “Caveman LSD”.
Although MAOI related deaths do happen from drug interactions (not from food interactions), I have concluded that the dangers of using Syrian Rue as an MAOI are mostly overstated in an abundance of copy-paste-precaution that does not apply. Overstating dangers convolutes the truth. High levels of tyramine can cause blood vessels to narrow. This can lead to very high blood pressure, a severe headache, and possibly bleeding – a situation that possibly cannot happen with a reversible MAOI like Syrian Rue or only at very high doses. On lower MAOI doses you will find that many of the forbidden foods are safe in small quantities – as you increase the amount of Syrian Rue you take, you will discover that the dietary guidelines do become more important to follow and that they are not altogether irrelevant. In the spirit of caution in abundance, you should keep foods handy that are known to lower blood pressure in the event that you accidentally ingested enough tyramine to make you uncomfortable. Extra-virgin olive oil, Oregano, Hawthorn, Cardamom, Basil, Calamus Root, and Wandering Jew are all medicines that lower blood pressure.
I have carefully experimented with mixing the forbidden stimulants with Syrian Rue – start with caffeine. The dangers of being slightly under stimulant may be overstated for combination with Syrian Rue when it is the irreversible pharmaceutical MAOIs that more commonly have more danger associated with stimulant combinations . Everybody has unique personal body chemistry, so they need to figure out for themselves what is comfortable and safe. Caffeine is definitely potentiated, I like coffee with my ayahuasca. Many information sources state that caffeine is forbidden, however in light of the fact that Theobroma Cacao contains an MAOI and caffeine, the mixture of these two medicines is a natural powerful combination that can be mixed carefully.
Methamphetamine was marketed by pharmaceuticals as Methedrine, Pervitin and Desoxyn. A dose is between 5 and 30mg, nearly impossible to manage in its pure form. It was marketed for sinus relief, weight loss, and depression. Adderall is a mixed amphetamine salt very similar to or containing methamphetamine. There are probably 100’s of information sources that say methamphetamine or Addrerall cannot be mixed with an MAOI. Perhaps irreversible MAOI’s cannot but Syrian Rue can mix with Adderall. MAO metabolizes mono amines, hence the name, the amine is not mono(alone) if it is methylated which is why methamphetamine has a half life of 10.9 hours. The unmethylated amphetamine which was popular during the 1970s is metabolized by MAO which is why it has a shorter half life, it is a step closer to natural. The all natural ephedra is a stimulant stronger than caffeine however ephedra is a controlled substance initially because when it was legal it became popular in highschool sports where several overdoses were fatal and now mostly because it is a precursor to methamphetamine. Ephdra grows in Utah, and was brewed in a drink called Mormon Tea. Its disgusting compared to coffee and the all natural ephedra is slightly unnatural in its pure form. Doctor prescribed Vivance is extremely unnatural from a molecular structure view. Shulgin methylated mescaline and it became effective at 20mg rather than 200. MDA is essentially amimated(ammonia’d or NH(Nitrogen-Hydrogen) ) onto safrole which is the inexplicably sweet smelling essential oil of sassafras, safrole is also a controlled substance because it can be used as a precursor. You are not allowed to smell it. When MDMA was new it was often referred to as Methylated MDA. I prefer MDA however only on rare occasions because it is physically draning to the body and requires recovery time. MDA has visuals and a softer effect than MDMA and REQUIRES you to drink excess water. There are 10 essential oils which can be aminated into a neurotransmitter.
Special Note about Datura, this plant is poision. This plant is not a serotenergic psychedelic, in that it does not cause visions by 5HT receptors that bind serotonin and molecules based on a serotonin structure. “To aid in the understanding cholinergic principles, consider Datura Stramonium from the nightshade family which is an anticholinergic agent, a substance that blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Classified as a deliriant, it causes bizarre behavior and pronounced amnesia. The effects from Datura poisoning generally last from 24-48 hours and in some cases, it can last 2 weeks. The common-knowledge antidote is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor, Physostigmine, interestingly – acquired from the poisonous Manchineel tree. ” from http://SyrianRue.org/Smart
Note: Contrary to many information sources, Gin, Vodka, Rum, and Bourbon contain no tyramine so it is perfectly safe to mix a drink. You should not drink beer or wine with Syrian Rue due to the yeast in brewing however you can mix alcohol with Syrian Rue. Small amounts of alcohol were neither toxic nor had a magnified effect when tested on myself – still I generally do not mix them. Interestingly, when attempting to perform extractions of pure harmine/harmaline from Syrian Rue using either Methyl or Ethyl alcohols creates an inactive red harmala as opposed to an active water extracted yellow harmala. This same reaction could be happening in the body although that is pure speculation. More study needs to be done.
Smoking Syrian Rue, (http://SyrianRue.org/smoke ) in addition to eating it adds tremendous effect and is seemingly a different effect. For simplicity, put 2 oz of dry Rue seeds in a freezer ziplock and rub them together by rolling the bag between your hands, tip the bag to put a corner down and massage the seeds until the powder falls to the corner and smoke that. It has an immediate relaxing effect.
Dose – 1-2 grams is a low dose, 7 grams is a high dose. 50 to 100 grams will render you unconscious and is commonly used as an an effective emmenagogue and abortificient agent in some cultures.
To effectively inhibit MAO to the degree that you can feel the effects, I have had the best success by using low dosing orally and by smoke every 2-3 hours for periods of 12 hours, daily. If you experiment to this degree you will likely discover that if you use too much Rue, you will not realize it until 6 hours after you take the rue. I have woke up in the middle of the night seeing a slight visual effect known as rue trails. For my use, i prefer to be just below the point where visual changes begin – it can be a nausea free enjoyable experience to have slight visuals but a dose large enough to cause visual changes and remain nausea free – will require great attention to diet.
Many people merely intent to slow down the metabolism of psilocybin, DMT, or mescaline which can be accomplished with 1 small dose of rue 50 minutes prior to ingesting the neurotransmitters. Other people are trying to turn off MAO and leave it off long enough to build up natural neurotransmitters – which will require multiple doses.
